Natural Therapies for Ringing in the Ear

Tinnitus is a medical term for the problem of ringing in the ear. People with tinnitus hear roaring, buzzing, whistling, or hissing sound in their ears. Physical exams cannot find any damage of the ear and the cause of this problem. According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, tinnitus cases can be divided into two types, excess type and deficiency type.

People with excess type of tinnitus hear constant high pitch ringing in their ears or sudden deafness. They may also have other symptoms, such as dry mouth, dizziness, headaches, and irritability. This type of the tinnitus is caused by stress and emotional disturbance, especially the emotion of anger. The good news is excess type of tinnitus is easier to be cured with Chinese medicine. Here is a real case from my practice record.

A 50-year-old business man, he complained the high pitch sound in his right ear, dizziness, poor appetite, and all of these symptoms started in the last a few days. He also mentioned that he also got toothaches, before he came to see me, he went to see a dentist. The dentist told him one of his tooth need to be extracted and the cost will be $400. He thought it is too expensive so he decided come here to take care other problems first. I asked him if he got angry recently. He was surprised and told me that he had an argument with a client a week ago, after that argument he felt the discomfort in his stomach and followed with other symptoms.

In this case, the emotion of anger caused liver qi (energy) disorder that blocked certain energy channels, such as stomach channels and gallbladder channels. Gallbladder channels pass around the ears and the temple area. The dizziness and tinnitus are due to the gallbladder channels blocked. The treatment plan for him is soothing liver qi and open blocked gallbladder channels. Massage therapy can calm down the emotional tension and relieve the stress. Acupuncture or Guasha therapy can open blocked channels. If the therapies are not available, you can use Chinese herbal remedy "Xiao Yao Wan" to harmonize liver and eliminate symptoms. At the end of his treatment session all of his symptoms include his toothaches were gone.

The deficiency type of tinnitus is often seen in people over age 60. They hear low roaring sound. This type of tinnitus is due to deficiency of the kidneys, a natural decline of kidney essence. Without proper treatment, it can lead to age-related hearing loss. The best and easiest way to treat this problem is taking Chinese herbal remedies. One of the most commonly used herbal remedies is "Liu Wei Di Huang Wan". The therapeutic effects of this remedy are nourishing liver and kidney essence to treat all aging related health issues.
